Welcome to The Harmonie

Genuine hospitality with an authentic joie de vivre

At The Harmonie, owner Sonja Wimmer has created a hotel according to her own vision and exacting standards. A boutique residence away from the mainstream with a unique artistic concept that can be seen throughout the hotel.

Born into the hotel business, Sonja Wimmer was just 25 years old when she took over the running of the family hotel in the Harmoniegasse in central Vienna in 2006. She succeeded in creating a unique hotel near the city’s main sights and attractions offering a home from home to guests from around the world.

It is not only guests who feel at home at The Harmonie Behind the scenes there is a dedicated team of staff committed to ensuring visitors enjoy an unforgettable stay. This effort was rewarded when in 2016 Sonja Wimmer and her team were voted Hotel of the Year by the general public, Austria’s most prestigious hotel prize.

History

A hotel full of culture and Viennese history

The name of our hotel can be traced back to the Harmonietheater, a former theatre situated on the Harmoniegasse road. This theatre was constructed over 150 years ago according to plans drawn up by world-famous architect Otto Wagner – who was also responsible for designing our hotel building. Considering this rich history, owner Sonja Wimmer embraced the opportunity to develop a concept revolving around culture and the performing arts.

Harmony by name, harmony by nature! Our hotel is characterised by a harmonious concept aimed to appeal to all the senses. Many of the design elements at our boutique hotel in Vienna’s 9th district are inspired by art and dance.

One of the most eye-catching highlights is “Signapura”, a project by Peruvian artist Luis Casanova Sorolla comprising works capturing the movements of solo dancers at the Vienna State Opera.

The Servitenviertel district

French chic, impressive architecture and a long history

The Servitenviertel in Vienna’s 9th city district is one of the most beautiful parts of Austria’s capital. A fusion of flair, elegance, tradition and history, it takes its name from the Servite Monastery founded here in 1639. Today it is known for its narrow alleys, hip cafés and small boutiques, creating a unique vibe found nowhere else in Vienna.

Insiders also call it the cultural quarter of Vienna – it is a district with many cultural institutions, monuments, the Schauspielhaus and the Theater Center Forum. The district’s vibrant local music scene includes everything from classical music to jazz to unplugged sessions. A touch of French chic and joie de vivre in the heart of downtown Vienna!

The Servitenviertel district
